Dark Chocolate and Diabetes
Posted on Jul 16, 2008 under Food |I love dark Chocolate, so when I heard it may actually help to lower/control blood sugar I had to try it out. Now I’m not eating the dark chocolate that you see at the check out. I’m eating the 80% stuff. I have 2 pieces about every day depending on if I actually have the chocolate or not. I have found that with some of the diet meals I get having just that tiny bit of carbs available helps me meet my carb amount for the meal.
So here is the question, does it work, well I’ve had a few ups and downs because of other things, but I think it might just help. Also I can deal with my chocolate cravings too! Always a good thing. Real dark chocolate is good for you in other ways too. If you have never tried Dark Chocolate over 60% your in for something different. It’s got a fruit but bitter taste that I actually like. You have to remember when you eat dark chocolate that the cocoa bean is a fruit. That way your not as shocked when you bite into it. The other good thing about this kind of chocolate, you don’t eat as much because of how sweet tasting it is.

Hi. I have a chocolate company called VERE. My concept for a healthful chocolate grew from a simple desire to find a healthy, premium “diabetic friendly” chocolate for a dying friend who loved good food. When everything I found for diabetics was loaded with chemicals, (that even a healthy person shouldn’t eat) and of very poor quality, I hired a pastry chef to handmake some low sugar dark chocolate for my friend. In the process of researching chocolate, I was amazed at the incredible “drugstore” found in cacao, and of course, the most delicious “delivery system” on the planet. I felt there would be a large audience who would appreciate “real” chocolate if it was available, so I spent the next 2 years researching beans, sugars, etc., building a factory, formulating, and making a proprietary couverture. Now 4 years later http://www.veregoods.com offers many diabetic freindly treats / all natural/ all Gluten-Free, and many are Vegan. All our chocolate is 70% cacao & higher, not sweet, but not bitter.I would love to send some to you for review. Just let me know where to send them. Best Kathy

I love chocolate and was happy to learn about the benefits of dark chocolate which I prefer much more than milk chocolate. I didn’t know about it being a fruit though.
